The studio continued to contribute to the 2019 Portal design as support to Facebook’s original B8 team and the Oculus team. We leveraged our 2 years of experience learning among a group of engineers and user researchers to form compelling design solutions within target cost.
This Portal is a stripped back version of the first generation, a minimal and accessible product intended to “disappear” for the benefit of the calling experience. Its simple slab form allows ample room for components, with secondary features such as the audio solution and kickstand designed to be equally unobtrusive. Graphic elements highlight the hierarchy of product features and guide users in their interactions with the Portal. Privacy is addressed here through a dual-feature toggle, allowing users to mute the mic and block the camera.
