In 2023, we were charged with designing the first consumer product in the brand’s history, an EV Charger. After spending years studying and developing Envision’s industrial equipment design language, it was time to adapt our thinking to a new range of products. We shifted from the essential and utilitarian design of the ESS to a more approachable design while keeping Envision’s fundamental values, such as reliability and professionalism, in mind.

The EV charger gun design is the result of a thorough ergonomic study. It is relatively heavy and features a fixed cable, which could make it hard to maneuver. We designed a large handle, considering different hand sizes to provide a solid grip.

The critical interaction point is the latch button, which disengages the gun from the charger and the car power slot. We designed this button to seamlessly blend into the object’s silhouette while remaining easily accessible under anyone’s thumb.

The EV charger should be suitable for private garages and sizeable underground parking lots. We have designed the front cover as an interactive interface. It can appear calm and discreet at home, highly visible in public spaces, and most importantly, it will indicate the different statuses of the charging process in any case.

The rounded enclosure facilitates cable winding. A dished recess on the front cover neatly accommodates the outlet port for use in public spaces. This same recess is reappropriated within a private residence as a secure gun holder, demonstrating the design’s inherent adaptability.
